Q: What schools do you pick up from?
A: For elementary schools, we have worked with PS 32, PS 162, PS 165, PS 163, PS 173, PS 499, PS 107, PS 46, PS 200, PS 203, PS 154. For middle schools, MS 74, MS 216. Each year, the schools we service are different and based on enrollment, please call us to double check as we add new schools based on interest.
Q: What are your transportation rates?
A: We currently charge $80/month for one way from your child’s school to our facility. Rates may change, so please contact us for most up to date information.
Q: What time will my child arrive at afterschool?
A: This depends on how far your child’s school is from our site. As there are multiple stops to pick up children from various schools, your child will typically arrive anywhere from 2:40 PM- 3:30 PM. We try our very best to shorten the amount of time spent in travel. Please note that during the first couple of weeks of school, transportation will be delayed as there is extra precautions taken by the schools before the releasing the children to us as well as increased traffic in and around the schools.
Q: What time does the program end?
A: Our program ends, and dismissal begins at 6:00 PM. The latest you may pick up your child is 6:30 PM. After that time, a late fee of $1/minute will be charged.
Q: Can I pick up my child before 6:00 PM?
A: You may pick up your child at any time, but we recommend that you give your child plenty of time to complete homework as well as participate in other class activities. Simply ring our doorbell and a staff member will assist you in pick up.
Q: What are the different payment plans/ options?
A: We have a semester rate in which you commit to and pay for our program for 5 months in one lump sum payment. That rate is currently $1500 ($300/month) and is paid in full within the first week of attending the program. Our monthly rate is currently set at $340/ month and us paid in the first week of attending the program and subsequently in the first week of each month.
Q: What do the children do at afterschool?
A: First and foremost, the children will work on their assigned HW. This will vary in length as different grades have different amounts of homework. When they finish HW, they are assigned extra enrichment work- for K/1 this will typically be grammar, word work, and math daily. They will also have read-alouds where they write responses and craft activities. For the upper grades, they will be assigned writing prompts, reading comprehension, math and monthly projects. When all of the assigned work is completed, they will be allowed free time to play with friends or work on an activity of their choice.
Q: What is the teacher to student ratio in each class?
A: In Kindergarten and First grade, we generally keep a ratio of 1 staff member to 6 children. At this young age, we find that the children need much more support and this ratio allows the children to get more individualized attention. For all other grades, we generally keep a ratio of 1 staff member to 8 children. Each year, the children’s needs are different and we add staff members as needed to best support the needs of the class.
Q: Who are the teachers at afterschool?
A: Most of our teachers and TAs at afterschool are college students who are majoring in Education or in a highly related field. This works well as our staff are passionate about working with your child and they are able to put theory learned in their classes into practice.
Q: How is your staff screened?
A: All of our staff have provided references, had their criminal background history clearance, child abuse clearance as well as medical clearance. They are directly supervised and observed by the program director in their initial hiring period and thereafter to ensure safety of all children.
Q: How will I know how my child is doing?
A: Each day, the teachers will log down on an individualized HW sheet every assignment your child receives. If there is any missing or incomplete work, we will notify you the same day. Additionally, at the end of each month, you will receive a billing statement/ newsletter that includes comments from your child’s teacher(s) regarding their academic, and socio-emotional progress while at afterschool.
Q: Are snacks provided?
A: Yes. We purchase pre-packaged nut free snacks so there may still be TRACE amounts of nut products. If your child is highly allergic, we suggest you pack your own snacks for safety reasons as we cannot guarantee that your child will not have an allergic reaction to the provided snacks.
Q: What types of snacks do you serve?
A: Some typical snacks served are fruit, yogurt, goldfish, chicken nuggets, pizza rolls, cookies, pretzels, Veggie Stix, and etc.
Q: What is the health policy of the afterschool?
A: If your child is sick or has had a fever, they MUST remain home for at least 24 hours AFTER the last fever has passed, without the assistance of fever reducing medication. When your child returns to afterschool, we will take their temperature and if they are ill, they will be sent home immediately. If you send your child to afterschool with a fever, we may ask that you provide clearance from a doctor before they are allowed to attend the program again. This is to ensure the safety of the other children as well as our staff.
